BAIT RIGGING
We did this style seminar last year for the first time and it was hugely successful. It is being brought back this year by popular demand and expanded upon. We will feature nine local fisherman in a "round robin" style. Each will have their own table and participants will be able to move from table to table to observe each presentation. The presenters will be using real bait and demonstrate how they specifically rig baits for various species. The relaxed, informal atmosphere makes for a real learning experience.
Attendees will have the opportunity to not only observe but ask specifics of each speaker. The advantage here is each speaker is a well known, and respected top fisherman in our local area. They are:
Capt. Chris Corbett / Wil Evans Ballyhoo
Capt. Denny Malaki Inshore Artificial
Andy White Wire Rigs
Evan Stein Inshore Live Baits
Steve Larson Surf Rigs
Mike Buckles Ballyhoo / Artificial
Rick Ruebel Swordfish / Squid

May 20 TARPON FISHING This month we are pleased to welcome back Captain Denny Malaki from the Fishin' Shack. Capt. Denny has spoken to the club on numerous topics in the past and most recently was on our bait rigging program we had in March. Capt. Malaki has been fishing our local waters for over thirty years. He has been a featured guide on ESPN2 and the Fox Sports Network. Pro staff with several major tackle companies and a regular on the professional tournament tours. With extensive experience fishing our local waters from the Tomoka Basin to Mosquito Lagoon, Ponce Inlet to the Gulf Stream, this month Capt. Denny will take on Tarpon fishing for us. The "Silver Gladiator", Megalops atlanticus, a.k.a. the Tarpon are the most non-discriminate big game catches in the world due to their habitat of close proximity to the shoreline. They can be taken from piers, docks, roadsides, causeways, bridges, bays, rivers, beaches, jetties, and boats. Though they have no food value, the thrill of the catch and release has few comparisons. This presentation, geared to the beginner will cover the tackle for big fish from spinning gear to fly outfits. These outfits and associated tackle will be on hand for close inspection and discussion. Baits, both live and artificial along with specific tactics will be a highlight. Targeting these giants locally from local bridges, beach's and behind shrimp boats is a speciality of Capt. Denny's and one he is willing to share. A short knot discussion along with demonstrations will cap off the evening. Spring is the time for Tarpon, be prepared this year by attending this timely and informative presentation. June 17 Other Species that can be Targeted During the Grouper/Snapper Closures Capt. Gary Danley Captain Gary Danley has fished most of the US East coast
from New York, the Mid-Atlantic, and through out the southeast. With tuna
and marlin as his prime targets, many prize catches of Dolphin and Wahoo
were captured while searching for his quarry. Owner and operator of boats
from 19' to 42' and a professional Captain and mate on sport fishing boats
up to 61', his experience will be opened up to our club. Captain Gary is
currently the manager of the West Marine store in Altamonte Springs. With many years of offshore experience as a licensed
Captain along the East coast, Gary has fished everything from tuna to marlin
to inshore species, but his love is the open ocean and sharing information
with those that range from beginning novices to more experienced offshore
anglers. His topic this month will give an insight into how offshore anglers
can change their game plan for success during the current closures. Gary is
highly regarded as a speaker and has been well received by club members in
the past with his presentation on "Billfish" two years ago. July 15 INLET and NEAR SHORE FISHING / Tarpon, Cobia, Kingfish Capt. Scott Tripp This month we are pleased to welcome Capt. Scott Tripp of
New Smyrna Beach, Fl. Capt. Scott is a well know, long time charter captain
and fishing guide in East Central Florida, he is also the owner and operator
of New Smyrna Outfitters in New Smyrna Beach. Capt. Tripp wil be discussing with us fishing both the
inside and outside of Ponce Inlet as well as targeting near shore species.
Cobia, kingfish, and tarpon are a specialty of Capt. Scott's, targeting
these challenging sport fish will be a highlight of his presentation.
August 19 Due to a scheduling conflict Attorney Dave Heil's presentation had to be rescheduled for August 19. The South Atlantic Marine Fisheries Council (SAMFC) recently voted in favor of the 17A amendment. This will close all bottom fishing in a large area of Florida waters. 17B was passed several months ago and is currently under review by NOAA. There are a lot of questions associated with these pieces of legislation. There have been a lot of rumors of just how we as recreational fisherman will be affected and how these laws will be enforced. In an effort to clear questions up and discuss where we go from here, we will be welcoming back Dave Heil. Dave is a member of CFOA and the lead attorney in the upcoming challenge recently filed in Federal court to the snapper and grouper closures. Mr. Heil will review recent legislation and outline our next course of action along with answering questions. This session will be from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Our regularly scheduled speaker will begin at 7:30 PM. This will be a VERY important meeting, bring family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors !!!!!!!!!!! " INSHORE TOURNAMENT PREP, Reds, Trout and Jacks " This month we are pleased to welcome Capt. Mike Mann of "Fat Fish Guide Service". Capt. Mike offers his guide services out of JB's Fish Camp and Mosquito Lagoon Fish Camp, both on the world renowned Mosquito Lagoon. With over ten years of experience guiding on the Lagoon, Capt. Mike is living his dream. Fishing with his grandfather in the lakes and rivers of Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama as a child he learned how to conserve our natural resources as well as how to understand the seasonal movement of game fish. His first experience at guiding was on the famed Stick Marsh for trophy large mouth bass. A friend introduced him to shallow water flats fishing and the rest is history. Timing is everything and this month's presentation is no exception. With our "Inshore Classic" just a month away, this will be a perfect primer for those entering our tournament as well as the casual inshore fisherman. Capt. Mike will discuss at length the tactics necessary for targeting trophy trout, reds and jacks. Hands on presentation of the armament required as well as in depth discussion of baits, artificial, fresh and live will highlight the presentation. Likely fish location, habits, pre-fishing and goals also will be included. Mark the date and plan on attending this highly informative two part evening.
